Are you thinking of sowing some vegetable or herbs this May?
Thinking about what will work well sown in May?
These are some of the edible plants that i like to sow in the month of May including some that i sow directly and some that i sow into pots and trays in my greenhouse, which is actually my little conservatory.
Seeds i sow and keep indoors:
Sweetcorn
Pumpkin
Courgette
Lettuce (all year round varieties)
Runner beans
French beans
Kale
Early Purple Sprouting
Lemon Balm
Sage
Basil
Chives
Parsnips
Watermelon (sugar baby) - I sow and keep in the greenhouse to grow
The following seeds i sometimes sow directly though they work sowing in greenhouse to start off too (sometimes i sow in both outdoors and indoors just in case!):
Beetroot
Chard
Carrots
Peas
Cauliflower
Spring onion
Turnips (golden ball)
Runner beans (some varieties)
Lots of my seedlings that i started earlier in the year start to be planted out in May, i try to wait until the weather warms up in my area and the risk of frost has past before i put things out but i often find myself impatient.
My cucumbers and tomatoes do go out in mid to end of May if i feel they are strong enough and often my pumpkins and squash are ready by then too. May is a great month for both my little garden and my allotment, the sight of greenery and lots of flowers appearing fills me with joy.
